Black Friday 2026 for Shopify sellers: the TikTok video plan

Published

Black Friday 2026 is Friday 27 November and Cyber Monday is Monday 30 November: US Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November, the 26th. For a Shopify seller the TikTok work happens before that week. Pick 3 to 5 products from what is already selling by early November, have several videos per product ready by mid-November, and keep the deal days for posting, not for producing.

The dates, and where they come from

Thanksgiving (US)The fourth Thursday in November, set by US federal law (5 U.S.C. § 6103).
Black FridayThe day after Thanksgiving. Not a US federal holiday; retailers in Europe use the same Friday.
Cyber MondayThe Monday after Thanksgiving.

Computed from the rule, then checked on a calendar. Some pages give 28 November for Black Friday 2026: that is a Saturday.

The plan, week by week

This calendar is Koda’s recommendation, not a measurement. We do not publish a “best time to post” we have not measured on our own data, and we quote no seasonal statistic we could not trace to its source. The logic is simple: a video made during the deal week has no time to show whether it works.

13 October – 1 November

1. Pick the products

Choose 3 to 5 products, not your whole catalogue. Black Friday rewards a short list you can make several videos for, not one video per product.

Start from what already sells: your own store’s best-selling order, and what other stores in your niche show in theirs. The next section explains how to read that order without fooling yourself.

2 – 15 November

2. Make the videos

Several videos per product, each with a different opening line: the hook is what changes from one video to the next, the product does not. Vertical 9:16, the product on screen in the first seconds, the offer written on screen rather than only spoken.

Check each file against the limits below before the busy week, not during it: a caption written for the app can be refused by a scheduler, and the maximum duration is set per account.

16 – 26 November

3. Post early and read what holds

Post the first versions now, while there is time to learn from them. Announce the date and the kind of offer without giving the price away too early if you prefer.

Note which videos keep people watching. Those are the ones to repost with the price on screen during the deal days, and the ones worth putting money behind.

27 – 30 November

4. The deal days: post, don’t produce

Post the offer versions of the videos that held viewers, with the end date written on screen (“ends Monday 30 November”). If you run ads, start from a video that already proved itself organically rather than from a new one.

1 – 7 December

5. After the weekend

A last-chance video if the offer runs on, then write down which product and which hook worked. That note is the starting point of next year’s list.

How to pick products from the best-sellers order

A Shopify store publishes one sales signal: the order in which it lists its products when sorted by “Best selling”. Shopify defines that sort as the all-time number of orders. Koda does not see any store’s sales, revenue or stock; it shows that public order, as the store itself displays it.

Two things follow. An old staple can sit above a product that took off last week, so look at what is near the top and recent. And it counts orders, not units: a cheap add-on bought in every basket can rank first without being anyone’s reason to buy.

  • Already near the top of its own store’s best-selling order, not just new.
  • Shows what it does on camera in a few seconds, without a long explanation.
  • Has room for a real offer at a price that still leaves you a margin.
  • Ships in time: an order placed on 30 November should arrive when the buyer expects.

The TikTok limits to check before the busy week

The same limits as any other week, documented with their sources on Koda’s reference pages. They matter more in November only because there is no time to redo a refused post.

  • Format: the Content Posting API accepts video/mp4, video/quicktime and video/webm. MP4 with H.264 and AAC is the predictable choice.
  • Duration: there is no single maximum. It is returned per account (max_video_post_duration_sec) and must be read before each post.
  • Caption: 4,000 characters in the TikTok app, but 2,200 UTF-16 runes through the API every scheduler uses, hashtags included. Emoji count double.
  • Aspect ratio: 9:16 at 1080 × 1920 is a recommendation, not an upload rule. A landscape file uploads fine and then plays with bars in the feed.

Hooks to adapt (text on screen)

Use only the ones that are true for your store. A hook that says “best seller” must match what your own store shows.

  • Our #1 product, in 10 seconds.
  • Why this is our best seller: 3 reasons.
  • Usual price vs Black Friday price, side by side.
  • What [price] gets you this weekend only.
  • The gift for someone who [has this problem].
  • Unboxing the [product], no talking.
  • Ends Monday 30 November.
  • Still deciding? Here is the one question to ask.

TikTok Buy Direct: what is confirmed, what is not

Confirmed by TikTok (5 October 2026)

  • Announced at Advertising Week New York 2026, presented to US advertisers.
  • An in-app checkout that lets people buy directly from a brand without leaving TikTok, from the For You feed, with one click using stored payment methods and saved addresses, plus in-app order tracking.
  • The brand remains the Merchant of Record.
  • Built with commerce and payment partners including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza and Stripe, and requires an integration with the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP).
  • Access is through “eligibility-based testing”: advertisers are told to contact their TikTok sales partner.

Not stated by TikTok

  • A date for general availability, and whether it will be open before 27 November.
  • Which countries beyond the US, and whether any European market is planned.
  • Fees, and what a Shopify store has to install or enable.

So do not build your Black Friday plan on it. If you already work with a TikTok sales partner, ask about eligibility; otherwise your videos send viewers to your store as before.

Frequently asked

When is Black Friday 2026?

Friday 27 November 2026, the day after US Thanksgiving (Thursday 26 November, the fourth Thursday of November).

When is Cyber Monday 2026?

Monday 30 November 2026, the Monday after Thanksgiving.

When should a Shopify seller start making TikTok videos for Black Friday?

Koda’s recommendation is to pick products by early November and have the videos made by mid-November, so the second half of the month is spent posting and learning which videos hold viewers. It is a planning choice, not a measured optimum.

Can I see how many units a Shopify product sold?

No. A store only publishes the order of its products sorted by “Best selling”, which Shopify bases on all-time orders. Nobody outside the store can tell whether #1 sold ten times or ten thousand times, and Koda does not claim to.
