Koda as an Opus Clip alternative
Last checked
Opus Clip and Koda both end with a vertical short, but they need opposite inputs. Opus Clip is a clipping tool: you give it a long video you already have — a podcast, a stream, a webinar — and its AI cuts it into short clips, reframes them to 9:16 and captions them, at 1 credit per minute of source video (60 free credits a month, 150 for $15 on Starter). Koda starts with no footage at all: it shows which products rank highest in Shopify stores' own best-seller order, generates the video from the real product photo, and publishes it to several TikTok accounts. A full economy video costs 226 coins, about €0.69 on Starter. If you already record long-form content, Opus Clip is the right tool.

|---|---|---|
| What goes in | A long video you already have: upload (up to 10 GB on Free and Starter) or a link from YouTube, Google Drive, Vimeo, Zoom, Twitch, Riverside and more | A product found in Shopify stores' best-seller order, or any idea written in plain words — no footage needed |
| What comes out | Several short clips cut from your footage, reframed and captioned | One new video generated from the product photo: script, image, 5 s clip, voice-over, subtitles, 9:16 montage |
| How it is billed | 1 credit per minute of the original video imported; Starter $15/month for 150 credits, Pro $29/month (or $14.50/month billed yearly) for 300 | 226 coins per economy video: €0.69 on Starter, €0.54 on Business, price shown before you generate |
| Free plan | 60 credits a month, watermarked, no editing, clips exportable for 3 days | Product research, store analysis and trends, 2 accounts, no card. AI generation is paid per use |

| Picking the best moment | Virality Score ranks the clips it cut (from Starter) | Not applicable — there is no long video to pick from |
| Product research | None | Best-seller order read from Shopify stores, plus an ad library — free, no card |
Cutting footage versus making it
Opus Clip's whole product rests on one assumption: the good material already exists, buried in an hour of video, and the job is finding the 40 seconds worth posting. For a podcaster or a streamer that is exactly the bottleneck, and Opus Clip is built for it — clip selection, reframing that follows the speaker, animated captions.
A Shopify seller usually has the opposite problem. There is no hour of footage, only a product page with a photo. Nothing to clip. Koda generates the video from that photo instead, so the input it needs is one you already have.
What each price actually buys
Opus Clip bills on the length of what you feed it: 1 credit per minute of the original video, whatever number of clips comes out. On Starter, $15 buys 150 minutes of source footage a month. That is cheap if you record a lot — and irrelevant if you record nothing.
Koda bills on what it generates. A full economy video — script, one image, a 5-second clip, voice-over, burned-in subtitles and the 9:16 montage — costs 226 coins: €0.69 on Starter, €0.54 on Business. A premium model costs more, and the price is on the button before you press it.
The two figures do not measure the same thing, so do not line them up as if they did: one is a minute of your footage processed, the other is a finished video made from nothing.
Starting from a product that already sells
Koda reads each tracked Shopify store's own best-selling order — the ranking the store displays at /collections/all?sort_by=best-selling — and shows which products sit at the top. That part is free, with no card.
A product picked there opens in the Create screen with its real photo, title and price. The video is generated from that photo, published to your TikTok accounts, and the numbers each account got come back to the same place.
When Opus Clip is still the better choice
- You already have long-form footage — podcasts, interviews, livestreams, webinars, YouTube videos. Turning an hour of real content into a week of shorts is what Opus Clip does, and Koda does not clip videos at all.
- You want your own face and voice on screen. Clips cut from your recordings are you; a video generated from a product photo is not.
- You post the same clip to YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, LinkedIn and X as well as TikTok. Opus Clip publishes to all of them; Koda publishes to TikTok.
- You need clips in many languages from one recording: Opus Clip captions in 20+ languages from Starter.
