Meta video ad specs, Facebook feed
Last checked · sources listed at the foot of this page
A Facebook feed video ad accepts MP4, MOV or GIF, at a 4:5 ratio and 1440 × 1800 pixels, between one second and 241 minutes long, up to 4 GB. Primary text runs 50 to 150 characters and the headline is capped at 27 characters.
What are the specs for a Facebook feed video ad?
These are the values Meta publishes in its own ads guide for the Facebook feed placement, read on 22 September 2026.
| Spec | Value | Note |
|---|---|---|
| File type | MP4, MOV or GIF | MP4 with H.264 is the safe default. |
| Ratio | 4:5 | Meta’s recommendation for this placement — taller than 1:1, shorter than a full 9:16 reel. |
| Resolution | 1440 × 1800 px | The 4:5 frame at a size that survives compression. |
| Duration | 1 second to 241 minutes | The ceiling is irrelevant in practice. The floor matters: a sub-second clip is rejected. |
| Max file size | 4 GB | Almost never the binding limit for short-form. |
| Primary text | 50 to 150 characters | A range, not a cap: under 50 is as much a problem as over 150. |
| Headline | 27 characters | The tightest constraint on the page, and the one that forces the rewrite. |
Why does my headline disappear on mobile?
Meta documents this explicitly for the Awareness objective on the Facebook feed placement: the lower portion of the video ad — headline, description and call-to-action button — is not displayed on mobile.
So a 27-character headline written to carry the offer carries nothing on that objective. The offer has to live in the video itself, or in the primary text above it.
Do Reels placements use the same specs?
No, and this page does not guess at them. Facebook Reels and Instagram Reels are separate placements in Meta’s ads guide with their own frame and text limits, and the numbers above are specifically the Facebook feed ones.
Check the placement you are actually buying in Meta’s guide before adapting a creative. Treating "Meta video specs" as one set of numbers is how a 4:5 file ends up cropped in a 9:16 slot.
What does this mean for a TikTok video reused as a Meta ad?
A TikTok video is 9:16. The Facebook feed placement wants 4:5. Those are different frames, so a straight re-upload either crops the top and bottom of the composition or letterboxes it.
The part that breaks most often is not the frame, it is the text: burned-in subtitles positioned for a 9:16 safe area land outside a 4:5 crop, and captions written for TikTok run past a 27-character headline without noticing.
Frequently asked
- What aspect ratio does a Facebook feed video ad use?
- Meta’s ads guide gives 4:5 at 1440 × 1800 pixels for a Facebook feed video ad.
- How long can a Facebook video ad be?
- Between one second and 241 minutes, with a maximum file size of 4 GB. The one-second floor is the constraint that actually rejects files.
- What is the headline character limit for a Facebook video ad?
- 27 characters. Primary text is specified as a 50 to 150 character range.
- Can I reuse a TikTok video as a Facebook ad without editing it?
- It will upload, but a 9:16 TikTok file does not match the 4:5 feed frame, so it is cropped or letterboxed. Burned-in subtitles placed for a vertical safe area are the first thing to fall outside the crop.
